Diono Radian RXT - Superlatch weight limit
Hi, I have a Radian RXT purchased in 2011. My manual says that the SuperLatch can be used up to 80pounds (36kg) forward facing, but your site says "LATCH installation rear facing up to 15.8kg and forward facing to 18.1kg in vehicles". What is correct? I was checking to see when I need to switch my daughter to the booster (height and weight) but now I am very confused. I would have thought newer models would allow heavier weights, not less?
Anna
  • Hi Anna, Thank you for your enquiry, The US law changed in Jan 2014 which limited the total weight of seat and child to be 65lb.  Before this it was up to each manufacturer to test their seat and for the customer to double check that their vehicle was compatible for whatever the limit was for each seat.
This law changed then meant that vehicles were coming out with the same information, before this every vehicle differed.

The seat is able to be legally used to 80lb as long as the vehicle was manufactured after Sept 2005 (as per your instruction booklet) yet that also needs to be compatible with the manual of the vehicle (so not have a weight stated in it of say 18kg.)
The wording in the manual lends itself to ‘please refer to the child restraint instructions for weight limits’ vs stating a weight.

So in short if your vehicle allows the higher weight limit then her seat also does.  Newer seats with different stickers are just following the new US vehicle law (the US seat standard hasn’t changed) and under our NZ law we must follow manufacturers instructions hence the lower limits.

Sorry it is a bit confusing hopefully this makes sense.

The customer below is talking about using it in booster mode, there are no restrictions for use of the latch in booster mode, the difference in weight limits is only for harnessed mode. We hope this helps. For further information on this or any of our other products available, if you follow the link http://www.babyonthemove.co.nz/store-locations/ this will take you to our online store finder. Diono Radian vs Britax Frontier
I’m wondering which seat is going to last me the longest out of these two?
Nikki Bull
  • Hi Nikki, thank you for your enquiry, they both have a weight maximum limit of 54.4kg as a booster, however, the frontier lets you keep them harnessed until 40.8kg where the RXT can only harness until 29.5kg. The RXT however, is suitable from birth and could possibly be the only seat you will need, where the Frontier is only forward facing and only suitable from 2 years. We hope this helps.  For further information on this or any of our other products available, if you follow the link http://www.babyonthemove.co.nz/store-locations/ this will take you to our online store finder. I am trying to compare the grandeur with the radian in terms of shoulder heights for rear, forward and booster modes. Grandeur: must rearface if shoulders under 34cm. Turn to forward facing once shoulders at 39cm. Stop use when shoulders at 51cm.

What’s the difference between a Diono Rainier and a Diono Radian XT?
Hi I have a Rainier for my 5 year old son and looking at buying a Diono for our daughter. She is 9 months but only 6.65kgs and 69cm. What’s the difference between the 2 and what would best suit her? Thanks
Jennelle Critchley
  • Hi Janelle, thank you for your enquiry, the RXT and the Rainier have very similar limits however the Rainier has better head support and the RXT is slimmer if your thinking of having a third child. you can also use the add to compare tool on our website which will show you both products side by side for better comparison. Would this model be to big for a suzuki swift
Im not sure what car seat to get as we have our first grandchildren and are unsure of what is required today. I no that it has to be rear facing for some of the time and are unsure to what age that is supposed to happen. We have 3 grandchildren ranging from 15mths down to 3 mths and we would like one that is going to do us for a while
Lyn Robins
  • Hi Lyn, thank you for your enquiry, The Diono RXT can fit in the suzuki swift with the angle adjuster but this depends on the childs age and size and also depends on how much room you need in the front seat. We would suggest calling into your local Baby On The Move Store to check. We hope this helps. For further information on this or any of our other products available, if you follow the link http://www.babyonthemove.co.nz/store-locations/ this will take you to our online store finder. We are travelling to the UK for 2 months in June and to use our Diono seats, they need to have the following safety standards on them; ECE R44.04 or ECER44.03 or Reg 129 do you know if they have been tested to EU standards?
