Flying safe with kids made easy with a CARES Harness.

CARES, the Child Aviation Restraint System, is the only harness type child aviation safety restraint ever certified for airplane travel by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Elegantly designed belt and buckle device for kids 10-20 kgs  that is easy to use and creates a safe airplane seat for your child without the hassle of carrying a 8 kg car seat.

Weighs just 500 grams and fits into a 15cm drawstring carry bag!  It is simple to install, adjustable to virtually any size airplane seat, and keeps your child as safe as a car seat would.

Made of the same industrial-strength webbing as your own seatbelt.  It is engineered and manufactured by AmSafe Aviation, the world’s foremost manufacturer of airline seatbelts.

Need your car seat at the end of the trip?  Check it as luggage  — take CARES on board in your pocket for a safe airplane seat for your child and a hassle free trip for you!

The following Airlines accept the CARES Harness as a FAA-approved Child Aviation Restraint:
  • Air New Zealand
  • Quantas
  • Jetstar
  • Virgin Australia
  • Virgin Blue
  • Emirates
  • ETIHAD
  • British Airways
  • Cathay Pacific
  • Air Canada*We suggest checking with your airline first in case airline rules have changed.

  1. Sarah

Purchased this from Auckland BOTM store for my daughter when we went to Rarotonga. We found this product fantastic, my daughter was alot more secure in this harness instead of just the airplane lap belt. Fits into a nice little bag so it didn’t take up alot of our room for luggage, definitely recommend this for families that travel a bit, we bought this because we travel alot but I do see that BOTM hires these for those not wanting to purchase.

  2. Kim

We hired one for our trip to Perth and we were so pleased that we did. It was easy and quick to install, didn’t interfere with the screen or tray table of the people sitting behind us (on either the small domestic planes or the larger international planes), and made me feel a lot better about how secure my 2.5yo son was in his seat.

  3. Emmaleen

I hired this product from BOTM Albany and found it so useful I bought one. I recently travelled to Indonesia via Australia with my 20month old and 4month old (solo in one direction). The harness was very easy to use , lightweight and came in a handy carry bag – very important when trying to juggle little ones plus carry-on luggage.
My wriggly toddler figured out how to undo the airplane lap belt within about 2minutes of take-off, but as he also had the harness on he was still safely restrained in his seat and I had enough time to resecure his lap belt.
I flew Qantas and was questioned by one air hostess as to whether it was an approved restraint. CARES is specifically mentioned in their policies and a few other airlines.
    A great product

  4. Sinead

Fantastic product, I have two and travelled alone, safely with my 2 and 3-year-olds in and out of Wellington on bumpy flights (Jetstar to Australia). Both kids took a nap while strapped in. Much more secure than airplane lap belt which little fingers can easily open. No issues with passengers behind or cabin crew. Small and light with a carry bag so easy to manage in a carry on luggage.

Travelling long haul to US and UK in a few months so will get lots of use.

  5. Daneille

We used it for my 16-month-old and she didn’t like it. There’s nothing between the legs so she was able to try and slip out the bottom. This resulted in the chest clip being stuck under her chin. I’m sure this will be better once she’s older. It was very easy to use and the people behind us didn’t mind as it didn’t impact their tray or anything. For under 2s Air New Zealand still made us hold her for take-off and landing. They said after 2 is fine but not before 2. The harness did give me a break during mealtimes which was nice, but once she didn’t want to be in it she easily tried to slide out. I know it’ll be good when she’s older but for now, it only worked to keep her contained for short amounts of time.

  • Can these only be used on economy seats?Just wanted to clarify whether these be used on the premium economy seats/ first class in air New Zealand planes or are they only tested for economy seats ?? Thought this would be a good option to use for our 22 month old (who will be 2 at the time) rather than taking all 3 seats on board. Thank you

Hi Christina, Thank you for your enquiry, The CARES Harness is suitable for any type of aircraft seat as it is adjustable. • How does this affect the passenger behind the child? The harness seems to need to go all the way over the seat - does this impact the passenger behind; their use of the tray table or tv in the seat?

Hi Melanie, thank you for your enquiry, the CARES harness should not affect the passenger behind, but I would check with the airline before travel to make sure of seat placement. We hope this helps. if you follow the link https://www.babyonthemove.co.nz/store-locations/ this will take you to our online store finder.
